YES!

A week and a half ago I applied for a research position here at VCU with the psychology department that studies different parenting methods of parents with African American children diagnosed with ADHD and also those without. The study wants to look at parents' readiness to change in their parenting in order to better help their children with ADHD, and identify intervention points. Yesterday I had an interview for the position, and today, after filtering through about 25 applicants, I was chosen as one of four research assistants.

I will be working with Dr. Heather Jones and her research team! I am a volunteer research assistant and will be working with the lab 6-9 hours per week starting next spring. Her study will continue for about a year to a year and a half, so I will be working with her team for a few semesters. I am so excited for this opportunity and seriously so grateful. It will definitely help me in my future, as far as for resumes and potentially for medical school, but that's not the main reason I was interested in the study. In general, it sounded interesting and I knew it would be working with children, so I was even more excited about that!

Things definitely seem to be working out here :)
